I saw this style of bucket list, and I thought it worked perfectly for my way of thinking. Just don't make me choose what I would like to do first!
Third Monday in April
Celebrating its 115th year in 2011, Boston is the oldest running marathon out there. Throw in the fact you have to qualify, and you have a race that any runner who's been learning about the sport will wish they could run. Could I really choose any other race?
2. Relay: Wild West Relay
First weekend of August
I've spent a lot of time writing about relays and learning all about where they go and how they are run. Timberline Event's Wild West Relay ("Get your ass over the pass!") is the perfect combination of scenery, challenge, size and organization for me. Coming in a close second is Heaven to Pair-O-Dice, a 250 monster off-road relay that sounds like it will be very cool.

3. Ultra: Tahoe Rim Trail
Mid-July
I love Lake Tahoe. Let's just get that out there. And I have a penchant for running around lakes, so what could be better - an ultra in a beautiful location that circles a lake. I won't commit to the 100 mile version just yet, though I'd really love to do a 100 miler some day.

4. International marathon: Rome
Mid-March
I am dying to go to Europe. I studied French for ten years, and at one point, I was dreaming in the language. I'm a sucker for history too. While I wouldn't mind the Paris marathon, I'd really love to run in Rome. Maybe I could find a way to bum around Europe for several months and do all of those great marathons - London, Paris, Berlin...I've got to get my kids interested in international studies!

5. Big urban marathon: New York
First weekend of November
After reading "A Race Like No Other," I decided that some day I would have to see New York on foot. Big cities are intimidating to a small town girl like me, but I find that running a marathon in one brings it down to size. What better way to see the 5 burroughs than a morning of running?
6. Scenic marathon: Big Sur
Last weekend of April
The best of the California coastline and Monterey comes together for Big Sur, a challenging marathon that may be the most beautiful one out there. I've wanted to camp in the area forever, and this might be my best chance to get down there to explore the area.
7. Set a marathon PR: California International
First weekend of December
St George is another good choice for a PR, but I think that the CIM may be easier to get to. With rolling hills and a net downhill, this is a good choice for the way that I like to run. Flat is not my friend. If I want to get to Boston, I'm going to have to train hard and fast, and my best health is always in the fall. I keep getting these nasty colds that linger and linger in the spring, so this is probably my best choice for going fast.

8. Party race: Rock N Roll New Orleans
Mid-February (Mardi Gras weekend)
I'm sure the race is a nice party, but the biggest party element of this race is that it gets you to New Orleans right before Mardi Gras. What could be better than limping around the streets of New Orleans and drinking all night long? : )

9. Destination race: Kauai Marathon
First weekend of September
First weekend of September
Really, I just want to go back to Hawaii, but if it takes running a marathon to do, so be it! I would really like to visit the island of Kauai, so this sounds like the perfect reason to go.
10. Off-road adventure: Run a long trail
Ever since I discovered that there was a trail that stretched all the way from Mexico to Canada, I've been intrigued by long trails. I cannot explain why I feel compelled to run one in it's entirety, but I do. I have always been the person who had to see a trail to the end - to cover the whole thing - and this is no exception. I could spend the rest of my life running trails and be perfectly happy.
So many amazing adventures to be had. I know that my list will change and change again as I discover new races and places to run, but half the fun is in the dreaming.
What's on your bucket list?
That list looks great. I'd love to run New York and the long trail...I'm the same. I want to run from the top to the bottom of South Africa one day.
