I just wrapped up a phone call with the woman who will be taking over my blogging baby - runningrelays.com. I'm leaping into the unknown, letting the project that has been my pride and joy for the past year and a half head into new directions without me.
This is not a decision that I made lightly. I've had some wonderful experiences as a almost-but not quite- professional blogger, meeting great people and learning new skills. But in the past few months, I've felt my life heading in new directions. I've slowly and quietly been breaking my ties to the blog, as I've started to dream of running trails and learning new ultrarunning skills.
The key to motivation, I have read, is to have intrinsic rewards. For me, those rewards for the relay blog were tied to finding out how to manage it, write about new topics, and find my way in a new marketing media. I have done that, and my ever active brain is ready to move on. To stay with blogging about relays would involve charging for advertising and rewriting familiar topics. This is not what I want to do.
I am not sad to see the blog go, though I will miss the thoughtful emails praising me for my hard work. (Who wouldn't miss that!) But I have new horizons to explore, new skills to conquer, new friends to meet. I hope to spend more time encouraging others in their running and blogging adventures as I start to write about my own running journey. I have so many ideas about where to go next that I have no idea where this new road might lead.
I hope that you will stay with me on this new journey. I don't know where it might lead, but that's the beauty of it, isn't it?
Hey, you are kind of stuck with me Terri! So I take it you are going to keep this blog going so I can follow your ultra training?! Big decisions are tough, but a load off when they are finally done!
ReplyDeleteI'm following. Nice new blog space! I did find you through runningrelays.com. I've been intrigued and inspired since. Looking forward to more inspiration!
